update!

I've been behind in blog posts but they will resume shortly. I've been busy moving into the apartment and getting used to the city and new people.

I just started classes today. It is my first day of my junior year at a new university. I've been anticipating this new beginning all summer and it has finally come. I can't say that I'm nervous, nor excited. I just want to get right into it to get a feel of things. I've somehow maintained a no expectations mentality...

Alright! I'm going to catch up with the weekday posts.

music monday - smallpools

Last week I saw San Cisco and their opening band was Smallpools, a new band that just formed in 2013.

This is their hit song "Dreaming." I first heard it on the radio and I thought it was Passion Pit!

Smallpools definitely stole the show with their upbeat sound and sing-a-long lyrics. Another great tune to check out is "Mason Jar."

Even though my summer is over already, Smallpools is summer playlist worthy.

wanted wednesday

THE PERFECT CHELSEA BOOT
Topshop's Affanita Chelsea Boot
Not particularly the style I want for a chelsea boot so I need help finding more options!

DESERT BOOTS

Clarks Desert Boots for Women

I'm so hard headed when it comes to dressing for comfort. I cannot part with my ankle booties because to be honest, I wear such basic outfits that the ankle boots makes the statement (they should be because they're an expensive pair of Rachel Comey Mars boots).

I go to a school that is on a hill, and I live off campus so I have to wait for a bus and walk back and forth from the apartment to campus. I will look like a fool in 2 inch heeled ankle boots going to class. It's time I give into comfort and invest in a pair of flat soled boots.

tasty tuesday - haight street market

HAIGHT STREET MARKET
Haight & Ashbury, San Francisco, CA

"Flashback" Reuben - $7.50
This local market has a deli with fresh food and handmade sandwiches. The sandwich I got was packed with pastrami, sauerkraut, and a vinaigrette on wheat bread. You can choose what bread you'd like and other additional toppings. I got it on a sub and after eating one half, I was already stuffed. These sandwiches are great for on-the-go and can be stretched to 2 meals.

It appears this market is very popular seeing that the line for the checkout reached to the back of the store, yet no one minds the short wait.

music monday - san cisco

It is no joke that I am a music cover aficionado. I have a cover to share again. This time it's San Cisco's cover of Daft Punk's "Get Lucky."

Since Daft Punk came out with their most recent album, "Get Lucky" was already known to be a summer hit song. I've been listening to it since May, and I continued to listen to San Cisco's take on it.

Carrying on, I chose to share San Cisco's cover because I am actually seeing the Australian band tonight at Slims SF. Apart from their cover performance, I love their original song "Beach."

friday friday - last bit of sunshine santa cruz

Unless I think of something more profound to dedicate for Fridays, it will remain as Friday Friday because sometimes Fridays are happening, sometimes they're not, and sometimes they are spontaneous. That's what Fridays are. In this installment of Friday^2, it's a "TGIF I'm gonna kick it in my PJs and recount w/ images and one sentence."
My attempt to do gradient effect nails.
It is much brighter and apparent in person.

Strawberry Macaron
Kelly's French Bakery - Santa Cruz, CA
Spontaneously I went to Santa Cruz with my best girlfriends and basked in the sun on the boardwalk and beach because I go back to foggy SF on Sunday!

therapeutic thursday - impermanence

- Frantz Fanon
Wall Piece with 200 Letters by Mikko Kuorinki
at Kiasma Contemporary Art Museum
Thinking about this quote right now is making me wish I used this in a college personal statement (I wish I was kidding because isn't it cliché to start any paper off with a quote nowadays?)

I had a conversation with a friend the other day and she feels like she's been in the same lane for the past years, with no real progression or milestone; whereas I feel like I've been in many lanes and still there is this great unknown of where I'm going (kind of like now, I'm not sure where I'm going with this. Stick with me...it'll all tie up...I think or I hope..?)

In high school I thought I had it all figured it out. I had this plan, this route that I was going to take to bring me to where I wanted to be, to a place I knew I wanted to be. By the time I entered college, I've taken several detours and experienced many yields. I started changing lanes. As I ventured out, everything I had known about myself was being challenged. I was losing a sense of self, I was gaining a sense of self. Not going according to plan would usually scare me, but I've learned to roll with anything that happens because everything that hasn't gone according to plan has still in the end brought me to a new understanding of myself.

You can be in the same lane, or in different lanes, but you are still moving with time and the world. I believe in impermanence. Nothing is really forever, nothing is ever really the same.

Constantly you're having to edit yourself and your life. At the moment, all the plans I had for this summer never transpired; however an unexpected opportunity arose and I took it. I'm not sure where it's going to take me, but I'm moving forward. I'm in it for the experience.

wanted wednesday - too dumb, too ugly because i'm a superhumanoid

THIS SHIRT
BurgerAndFriends on Etsy, $22
Currently being unemployed depresses any appetite to shop, whether it's window shopping or online shopping. I don't want to look at pretty things when I probably can't afford it. At the moment, however, this shirt somewhat resonates with me. I mean I could have lived in New York, or L.A., but I chose the City by the Bay. I'm not saying San Franciscans are dumb and ugly, but I feel I can be myself in this city without feeling out of place. I've been to NY and L.A. so this is coming from my personal experiences.

And by the way, this post is sounding to be more serious than it should be....(it's not that serious).
What is serious is that I want this shirt and I can get it without making a huge dent in my wallet.

THIS CD ALBUM
"Exhibitionists" by Superhumanoids
I have been anticipating this album release from Superhumanoids since I saw them open for Local Natives in April at the Catalyst. Their sound is like 80's dream pop and dance-inducing, but also soothing? Is that possible? Well they certainly have achieved making "music to help kiss the doldrums away."

tasty tuesday- cinderella bakery & café

CINDERELLA BAKERY & CAFÉ - 436 Balboa Street
Inner Richmond, San Francisco, CA

I recently moved to San Francisco and around the corner of my apartment is this Russian bakery. I don't know anything about Russian food or pastries so for breakfast I played it safe and got a Chai Latte and Smoked Salmon Bagel (Smoked salmon in the AM?? It was good anyways.) Eventually I did try something Russian and it was a beef piroshki. It was kind of like ground beef stuffed in a fluffy bread, similar to Puri. It's very light, yet filling.  I would definitely get it again.

It's a quaint bakery with seating inside and outside.

Cinderella also serves larger meals for breakfast and lunch. In addition to pastries, drinks, and other Russian food.

music monday - fleetwood mac covers

The first installment of Music Monday is a collection of various Fleetwood Mac covers that I love. I am somewhat an aficionado of music covers and this post is not to deter you from enjoying the original, rather to get a taste of another artist's take. I see it as an homage to something that has already been done. So here we go:

1. GYPSY / Gardens & Villa
This cover is on the "A Tribute to Fleetwood Mac" album

2. GO YOUR OWN WAY / Gabrielle Aplin

3. OH WELL / HAIM

The Haim sisters make this song sound like an anthem for girl power right? HAIM  is also featured on the aforementioned album performing a cover of "Hold Me."
